Well ahead of the curve, Saudi Arabia boasts one of the most sophisticated and technologically advanced medical sectors in the Middle East. The Saudi Arabian healthcare network stretches from the remotest corners of the Kingdom, to the residential housing complexes springing up throughout all major cities. It embodies every type of health care provision, from small clinics to world-class specialty facilities, and employs thousands of dedicated health care professionals. As a clear measure of a countries relative competitiveness, the Saudi Arabian government has invested heavily in healthcare. Yet the need for top-notch health care in Saudi Arabia is on the rise, and demand for hospital beds is expected to rise from 51,000 today to 70,000 by 2016.
Public and private primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare facilities and services are readily available across Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom’s hospitals and clinics are equipped and managed according to the highest international standards.
Physicians, specialists and paramedics of many nationalities work at the various health facilities, and are qualified and trained to deal with any medical situation.
Prescription drugs and other medicines are also widely available at pharmacies and drug stores throughout the country.
Health care has been offered free of charge for many years, but a new health policy, to be implemented in the near future, will make it compulsory for expatriates residing in the Kingdom to buy health care insurance.
